Notarial fees, fees, and other taxes/charges

Notarial fees vary depending on the type and complexity of the notarial act. The total notarial cost paid at a notary office consists of the notary’s fee and the taxes/charges owed to the state by the client.

How the notary fee is calculated

The notary fee is established by order of the Minister of Justice (O.M.J. no. 46/C/2011). According to this regulation, some acts are charged with a fixed fee, while others are subject to a progressive or percentage-based fee depending on the determined or determinable value of the transaction.

In addition to the notary’s fee and the related VAT, other charges may also apply at the notary office, such as:
  • Income tax on the transfer of real estate from personal assets, in accordance with the Fiscal Code (this tax is paid to the State Budget and local budgets);
  • Land Book registration fees (ANCPI);
  • Verification or registration fees in the national registers managed by the National Union of Notaries Public National Registers Administration Center (CNARNN).
